“We as accountants have the privilege of being the “trusted advisor” to our clients. We must reward this trust by ensuring that we add value with every contact we have with our client”
His story
Harry commenced in the profession in 1971 with one of the “Big 8” as they were known then, and in 1977 he was a founding partner of Kutner Rosenberg which went on to become BKR Rosenbergs which amalgamated with Nexia Alexander & Spencer in January 2006.
Harry describes himself as a “specialist generalist”. He has worked principally with privately owned businesses and investment groups and his vast experience enables him to provide solutions to their issues, either directly with his advice and the advice of his office or from the network of professionals of the best in their field that he has assembled over the years.
“They come to me for solutions and it doesn’t have to be from me personally.”
The combination of his knowledge of tax, business buy / sells, business development, succession, property and the related issues together with his passion for helping his clients, allows him to provide creative solutions to the issues on hand.
When did you join Nexia Alexander & Spencer / BKR Rosenbergs?
My practice BKR Rosenbergs amalgamated with Nexia Alexander & Spencer on 30 January 2006 in what was regarded by both practices as a union for the future to benefit team members, clients and partners of both practices.
I was one of the two founding partners of BKR Rosenbergs back in July 1977 and we practised as Kutner Rosenberg & Co back then.
Why did you choose to work at Nexia Alexander & Spencer / BKR Rosenbergs?
As I said I was a founding partner of Kutner Rosenberg back in July 1977. Prior to then I chose to join Kutner Lederer as an employee in 1974 as I was very impressed with the professionalism, knowledge and compatibility of the two partners of that practice at the time.
Why did you become an accountant?
Great question but very ordinary answer - at that time I hadn't seen any visions of the benefits of a career in accounting. It was because my late father told me what a great career it was and how everyone needed an accountant.....and like the show "Father knows best", he was right.
If you could have any one / any business in the world as a client who would it be and why?
I know this may seem like a politically correct answer, but it is very hard to chose any one or any one business in the world as nearly all of my existing clients provide their own unique challenges and rewards. But to answer the question, if I could only have one client in the world I think it would be Richard Branson as it would be an amazing experience to work closely with him and get to see and experience how he thinks and be exposed to his creative business attitude.
If you could have dinner with any one in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I think it would be Moses. Imagine the leadership skills he must have had to lead 100's of thousands of people out of a place where despite having a life of slavery, they would have had some certainty of food, shelter etc and instead they followed him into the unknown desert where they wandered for 40 years. And he delivered on his word.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I don't have any spare time, any time I'm not working I am with my kids ( we have 6 ) and my grandkids - we currently have 5. But in the few minutes I do get to myself I most enjoy either riding my Vespa or taking photographs, preferably both at the same time... riding my Vespa around and taking photos along the way.
